When Is Dussehra 2017 ? Vijayadashmi History 2017  -

This year October 11th will be observed as the Vijayadashmi or Dussehra. The celebration behind Dussehra is on this day Lord Rama Killed Ravana who was the King of Lanka, because Ravana abducted Lord Rama's wife. So Lord Rama along with brother Laxman, disciple Hanuman and army fought a battle to rescue Sita. that story is recorded In Ramayana. the another story behind the celebration Vijayadashmi is on that day Goddess Durga Killed Mahishasur. Because Mahishasur along with all Ashur defeated Devas and capture heaven. A bolt of lightning emerged from the mouths of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and a young, beautiful female virgin with ten hands appeared named Durga. The gods gave her their weapons, and Shakti coalesced to form the goddess Durga. On a lion who assisted her, Durga fought Mahishasur for nine days and nights; on the tenth day, Mahishasur was killed. Durga, as Shiv's consort, represents two forms of female energy: mild and protective, and fierce and destructive. so from that day Vijayadashmi is celebrated every year.
